Machu Picchu Closed July 6 & 7 2011 for Centennial Celebration

Today we were informed that Machu Picchu will be closed to the public on July 6 and 7, 2011.  Those who already have their Inca Trail trek permits will be allowed to trek into Machu Picchu, but it looks like they will only have until 10am to visit site.  So those who haven’t yet booked their trip to Machu Picchu should make sure to visit the site before or after July 6 & 7.

We received the message below from our local operator, InkaNatura.

“The Regional Direction of Culture Cusco informs to the public, that because of the centenary of “Machupicchu for the World “, we will have restricted access on July 6th and 7th, 2011 as follows:

1. The entrance fees to Machu Picchu will not be available on July 6th and 7th, included Inca Trail.
2. People who have purchased tickets in advance to Machupicchu for these days, will be able to use them
3. People who have purchased a ticket to Machu Picchu through the Inca Trail, will be able to visit Machupicchu until 10:00 am on July 6th and 7th, also the same tickets will be valid on July 8th, 9th or 10th, 2011.”

if my tour agent can buy in advance the tickets to mpicchu, does it mean, we will be allowed, and the entrance/buying tickets/closing will only apply to the people that wants to buy it in cuzco on the same day or on that week for those days?
