The Rainforest Alliance Recommends Detour for Sustainable Travel in Latin America

Detour and the Rainforest Alliance have partnered for several years to promote sustainable tourism in South and Central America.  Detour is pleased to announce that the Rainforest Alliance has highlighted Detour as their “Recommended Link” on the Eco-Index:  http://www.eco-index.org/links/ecotourism.cfm.

A service of the Rainforest Alliance, the Eco-Index (www.eco-index.org) is a bilingual database of more than 1,350 biodiversity conservation projects in the Americas, representing the work of more than 900 NGOs, government ministries, and research institutions.  The Eco-Index also houses the Eco-Index of Sustainable Tourism, http://www.eco-indextourism.org/home, a Web site that features businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean that have been deemed environmentally and socially responsible by reputable environmental organizations and/or ecotourism certification programs.

Detour’s website review is available on the “Recommended Links” page (see above); on the Eco-Index’s “What’s New?” page (http://www.eco-index.org/new/index.cfm), which receives an average of 60,000 visitors each month; and on the Eco-Index’s monthly update email newsletter, sent to more than 3,000 conservation professionals.

Detour continues to encourage sustainable practices of local tour operators in South and Central America, and we applaud the work the Rainforest Alliance is doing in this area.

Travel can be good for the planet!
