We Support BCorp Businesses!

BCorp Businesses believe in business as a force for good in the world. They work to balance purpose and profits so that societal problems are not merely the responsibility of government and nonprofits.

To be clear Detour is not a certified BCorp member. . . yet. We are working through the requirements in order to become one. BCorp certification is thorough and a badge of commitment to the “highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.” As a company built on the foundation of promoting sustainable travel, one might think we’d qualify rather easily. But, it’s work. It is guiding us to create policies and procedures that just didn’t exist before due to our small size and our general low-key nature. It’s encouraging us to get explicit about our implicit values. And it’s ensuring that we actually back those values up with action.

While we might not be a BCorp Business yet, we do promote and work with BCorp companies (there are not too many in travel), Rainforest Alliance Certified Companies, Smart Voyager cruises, and other local sustainability certifications. We do believe business can be a means of social change. As the climate crisis calls into question the sustainability of air travel itself, we believe now more than ever it’s important that the good of travel (the ability for travel to benefit local economies, to protect wildlife and natural landscapes, to open and expand our collective worldview) be a prerequisite in deciding your travel plans.
