What is the best time of year to do the Inca Trail trek?

The Inca Trail is open 11 months out of the year, closing for the month of February (see below).  The dry season from April to October is probably the most comfortable period to visit the Inca Trail, however there is always a chance of rain throughout the year.  The rainy season is from December to May. There is likely to be heavy rain for two to three hours every afternoon, as well as the possibility of light showers that continue over a longer period. Walking conditions are difficult, and streams may become impassable.  Ideally the month of May is perfect since there is little rain and the vegetation is still rich and lush.  However, always be prepared for cooler or warmer weather, as the weather is unpredictable.
