Neotropic Expeditions

NeoTropic Expeditions

A leading adventure travel specialist since 1991 and a pioneer of the multisport experience in the Galapagos, Quito-based NeoTropic Expeditions really shines for the active traveler. Travelers explore the country’s landscapes at the wing of hand-picked professional guides, each an Ecuadorian and a friendly source of extraordinary local insight.

All guides possess a premium of certifications and mastery of the high-quality gear used to equip clients for their adventures. Travelers can rest assured that NeoTropic Expeditions’ guides are not just naturalists in a kayak or on a glacier, they’re passionate kayakers and climbers. With a staff of 25 dedicated Ecuadorians, clients are in good, capable hands. The company was founded on outdoor expertise by brothers Marcelo and Alfredo Meneses, who began by guiding whitewater trips and soon after expanded to trekking, mountain biking and sea kayaking.
For adventure, diverse wildlife or indigenous community encounters, or a combination of sights, sounds, flavors, and naturalist experiences in this South America biological hotspot, NeoTropic Expeditions carefully selects the journey. Every experience is designed with a focus held on four pillars ─ nature and culture, local knowledge, comfort and adventure. The company promises a meaningful, fun and safe eco-adventure experience and delivers with faithful attention to the details and strong commitment to sustainable ecotourism in Ecuador. This commitment is both operational and political.

With membership on the board of the Ecuadorian Ecotourism & Adventure Association, NeoTropic Expeditions contributes direct leadership to social and environmental sustainability of Ecuador’s adventure travel industry. In this capacity it had a significant role in the establishment of the first certification standards for nature-based hotels and currently is actively involved in establishing minimum operational standards for adventure-based activities. NeoTropic Expeditions works closely with the International Ecotourism Society, follows Leave No Trace practices, has membership in Sustainable Travel International and is certified and verified sustainable by the Rainforest Alliance.

As an expression of its commitment to sustainable tourism on a local level, a solid 70 percent of the funds raised from its land-based tours in the Galapagos are redistributed within the local Galapagos economy. The company collaborates a portion of these funds with Hacienda Tranquila on San Cristobal Island to help strengthen simultaneously the community and environment while also addressing social issues.
