What does Detour do with the information it collects from me?
We use personal information primarily for the purposes of contacting you regarding your account, fulfilling requests for information, to ensure the successful fulfillment of your trip arrangements, and for providing customer support.
Detour Newsletters
You may choose to subscribe to Detour’s newsletters which will be sent to you via email. Should you decide you no longer wish to receive these newsletters in the future you can reply to any email with “Remove” in the subject line.
Reservation Requests
When requesting information about a trip, or requesting help planning a trip, we will ask and collect certain information about you and your trip plans solely for the use of helping you plan your trip.
Purchasing Trips
In order to purchase a trip through Detour we must collect other personal information about you and your fellow travelers due to the nature of international travel. We collect information about your address, your passport information, and age and health information as requested by our local Travel Providers to help them offer you a safe and comfortable personal experience. We also may collect credit card information to collect payment for the trip, although we recommend that you pay with your credit card using a secure site from a link sent to you so that we do not ever see your credit card details.
Sharing Information with our Travel Providers
We share only the information that you have provided to us through the booking process with the local travel providers running your trip to ensure the successful fulfillment of your trip arrangements. In the Travel Provider Agreement, Detour contractually obligates all of our local providers to abide by our privacy policies, and to promise not to sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties, nor to contact you for any reason than to help prepare for your upcoming trip. We cannot guarantee all Travel Providers will comply with this obligation.
Share With a Friend
Detour visitors can choose to share trips they have seen or purchased with other people. When you do this, you are required to register or sign in and then enter the email address of the person you want to share information with. We will automatically send a one-time email to this person inviting him or her to visit the website and view the content you wished to share with them. It is then up to your friend to become a Detour member if they wish to receive further information from us about our site and services.
Third Parties
We do not control the privacy policies of advertisers or other third parties that have web sites linked to our site. If you click on an advertisement or link, the privacy policies of the web site that you link to will govern the use of your information by that website’s operator.
