WHY THIS TRIP
This family trip is a mix of sightseeing and fun activities at a varied and quick pace; none of the activities are too strenuous. You visit the highlights of Buenos Aires, the Lakes District, and Patagonia while staying in cozy, boutique accommodations.
Optional extensions to Iguazu and/or Puerto Madryn are highly recommended to round out the experience. Each trip is private for your family, so the pace is up to you and there is quite a bit of flexibility in the itinerary on most days.
TRIP DESCRIPTION
The multi-activity, multi-destination Argentina Family Adventure is the kind of trip that lets you see the highlights of the country and be active, while still having time to relax and explore independently. In just 10 days, you will visit Buenos Aires, the Tigre Delta, Bariloche (part of the Lakes District), and Patagonia.
For those who want to round out their trip, you can add on an extension to Puerto Madryn for amazing whale watching and/or to Iguazu Falls to marvel at the famous, extensive series of waterfalls.
The pace of the itinerary is set to keep families of all ages engaged and busy. Additionally, the activities and tours are diverse, fun, and particular for each location.
The trip begins with a cycling and kayaking tour right outside Buenos Aires in the Tigre Delta. A train takes you part of the way out of the city and from there, you begin your peaceful bike ride through the gorgeous natural landscape and see the area’s vibrant local culture en route; you will also have the chance to kayak along the Parana river.
Of course, you spend some time in Argentina’s the bustling capitol, Buenos Aires, staying in one of the prettiest and historic neighborhoods, Palermo. Your private guide will provide recommendations and guidance for what you may want to do with your free time in the city, but we can also add-on a guided tour if that’s what you prefer.
After taking in the city atmosphere, you will depart for Bariloche, the best-known hub for exploring the many waterways, forests, and mountains of the Lakes District. You’ll stay at a historic hotel well outside the town, located right on Lake Nahuel Huapi and surrounded by the Andes.
The best way to get to know this alpine region is by hiking and visiting the small Andean villages dotting the forest, and that’s exactly what you do with your guide. Again, since you have a private guide, the tour will be suited to your interests and motivation.
Further south, you officially enter Patagonia where some of the most iconic glaciers and mountain ranges in the world are located. The visit to Perito Moreno, a three-mile wide and 20-story-high advancing glacier, is one of the true highlights in Argentina.
You will see and hear massive chunks of the glacier cracking off and crashing into the water below both from the walkway viewpoint and along your boat tour. Getting off the beaten path, you also head deeper into the mountains to visit an authentic Patagonian estancia within Los Glaciares National Park and ringed by alpine vistas.
Here you can partake horseback riding and, depending on the season, observe some of the estancia’s traditional tasks (like sheep sheering or cow milking).
You will return to the countryside outside Buenos Aires, but now visit the renowned Puerto Viejo Polo Club where you can relax and witness one of Argentina’s most beloved pastimes. The estancia here is great for relaxing, leisurely bike rides and horseback riding.
For some the trip will end when you return to Buenos Aires and fly home. For others, the option to extend your trip is easy with an additional tour to Iguazu and/or Peninsula Valdes. Iguazu Falls is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Natural World. When you get to see the hundreds of waterfalls yourself, it will be clear why.
At the edge of the tropics, this national park (shared by Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay) will feel 360 degrees different from the windy, dry Andean landscapes you experienced just a few days before. The excursion to Peninsula Valdes is all about seeing marine wildlife and experiencing the most northern region of Patagonia.
The wildlife you’re likely to see will depend on the season, but expect to see elephant seals, penguins, sea lions, whales, and (hopefully!) orcas. Each of these excursions is very different from the destinations visited in the normal itinerary and will complement your tour perfectly.
