WHY THIS TRIP
The Ausangate Trek is one of the most scenic and iconic treks in southern Peru, and the lodge-to-lodge style makes it one of the most comfortable as well. The full trek is one of the more challenging commercial hiking trips in the Machu Picchu area, so it’s ideal for experienced hikers.
At night, you eat dinner, relax, and sleep in charming Andean-styled lodges, all of which were designed to fit in with the surrounding landscape and traditional culture of the area. The highlights of this trek make the challenging hike worth every step: jaw-dropping alpine scenery, a window into traditional Andean village life, and the feeling of a truly remote adventure, far from the crowds.
This trip package includes acclimatization hikes and days in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu before you start your trek. The former Inca capital and Spanish colonial city of Cusco is your starting point for this great expedition, a wonderful place full of culture, history, good restaurants and fun nightlife. You have a full-day tour of the ruins situated on the outskirts of Cusco, including the impressive Sacsaywaman. You will visit Machu Picchu TWICE on this trip! Your tour of Machu Picchu and hike to Machu Picchu Mountain are private, so you will have plenty of time for questions for the guide.
Trek in the Cordillera Vilcanota, on a route we call the “Camino del Apu Ausangate” located in close proximity to the highest, sacred mountain in the Cusco region. The “Apu” is the bearer of life and the guardian of one of the most pristine mountain ecosystems in the world.
Our treks will be accompanied by llamas and horses that carry our gear, which that are owned by the shepherds of the Chillca community whom are proud to share with us their land and the spirit of this inspiring world.
On our hikes and in our unique “Tambos” or Andean Lodges, daily meals will be prepared by experienced chefs, introducing you to a great variety of delicious Peruvian cuisine and produce. As for entertainment, authentic, vernacular music from members of the communities will accompany some of our nights in the “tambos.”
You have the choice of a shorter or longer trek, depending on how much hiking you prefer. This package includes additional days in Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu to allow you to properly acclimatize before trekking.
