WHY THIS TRIP
The Easter Island Rapa Nui Explorer is a collection of small group tours across the Island’s diverse highlights. The archaeological treasures here are scattered throughout the Island and as you explore there, there is much more to see in the National Park that you also visit. This program is suited for those who want to discover the richness of Rapa Nui’s history, natural environs, and culture without blowing their entire vacation budget.
TRIP DESCRIPTION
From vast crater lakes and the ruins of ceremonial sites to the spectacular coastline and haunting moai statues, Easter Island is definitely worthy of any travelers bucket list. Among its soft green hill you find caves decorated with ancient paintings, unfinished stone heads resting in their quarries, and ritual sites of a bygone civilization. Along the coast, you walk to rocky cliffs, a vibrant Island town, and white sand beaches. This stunning Island contains more than you can possibly explore in a week, but this diverse tour will let you discover the highlights and little-known treasures of Rapa Nui.
With your trained, bi-lingual guide, you will visit a variety of archaeological sites (like ceremonial sites and moai statues) and natural features every day. You start with a visit to several Ahus, or sacred places, where the moai statues were erected and a quarry where the massive stone heads still lay partially finished. You also visit a massive crater lake at the top of an extinct volcano and have an excellent view of rolling hills extending to the ocean. Later, you tour an ancient village where the famed birdman ceremonies took place and you’ll find well-preserved petroglyphs of Easter Island’s ancient inhabitants. Of course, you also have time to relax and explore the Island’s lovely beaches; for those who want even more activity, there is an optional snorkeling excursion one afternoon.
Your base is a simple three-star hotel in the main town of Hanga Roa where the vast majority of Easter Island’s inhabitants live. Here, you can relax in the town’s laid-back vibe and mellow charm. Your hotel’s proximity to the coast, well-tended gardens, and outdoor provide a relaxing ambiance. Altogether, this tour is designed to let you discover the diverse wonders of Easter Island and leave the rest of the world behind.
