WHY THIS TRIP
The Letty Galapagos Cruise and Machu Picchu trip offers the best of each destination: great wildlife viewing in the Galapagos, and amazing culture and history in Peru. The First Class Letty has 2 naturalists on board, meaning your nature walks have fewer travelers to each guide. The Machu Picchu portion visits the best Inca ruins and markets, culminating in the exploration of Machu Picchu Ruins.
TRIP DESCRIPTION
For many years, Detour travelers gave their most enthusiastic reviews to the Letty Galapagos Cruise and our 5-day Machu Picchu cultural explorer programs. We listened, and figured out a way to combine these trips so you get cultural experiences in Peru that match the splendor of the Galapagos environment. The idea is to take the guesswork out of the trip planning and make it simple to have unique tours in both places.
We believe that exciting itineraries and experienced, thoughtful guiding shouldn’t be amenities exclusive to luxury travelers. In Peru, we focus on a mix of world-famous ruins and traditional, Peruvian culture. You visit stunning, lesser-known Inca ruins and small Andean towns along with an in-depth exploration of Machu Picchu and Cusco. After journeying through mountains and ruins, you travel to some of the Galapagos’ most remote and wildlife-dense sites on a 20-passenger expedition yacht. Your guide will show you the underwater world of the Galapagos while snorkeling to find sea turtles, marine iguanas, penguins, and flightless cormorants. On land, in group of 10 travelers or less, you’ll walk up to dancing blue-footed boobies, lounging sea lions, and ancient Giant tortoises.
This program is not for people who like to sit on massive buses, only getting off long enough to snap a picture and cross an item off their bucket list. You’ll be traveling in very small groups, visiting sites overlooked by massive crowds and exploring the most well-known areas in a more personal way. The local guides in each place are exceptionally well-trained and enthusiastic about making a place come to life for each traveler. The groups are kept small so each day’s activities can be a bit more flexible and you can always have time to chat with the guide on your own.
Depending on the time of year you want to go and your particular interests, Detour can direct you to the right tour options for your group.

Welcome to Paradise! This was a trip of a lifetime. The Galapagos was Paradise and our guide Ivan was fantastic and especially attentive to our needs. We were able to get within a few feet of all the wildlife as we hiked, kayaked and snorkled. We also went to Machu Picchu. We had our own personal guide Yehir who met us at the airport, took us to our hotel and gave us a walking tour of Cusco. The next day he picked us up to tour the Sacred Valley on the way to Machu Picchu. He was very informative and enthusiastic.

We have recently returned from a trip to the Galapagos and Machupiccu organised for us by Layna of Detour Destinations. The trip was perfectly organised. From the drivers who met us at the airports, to the Guides whose knowledge was amazing, every detail was totally organised. The hotels recommended were perfect and in a very appropriate area of the cites given our interests. It was wonderful to see Hulio’s smiling face when we arrived back in Cuzco exhausted from our trip to Machupiccu! Our trip to the Galapagos was also well organised. The staff on the Letty were excellent, as was the food and the depth of knowledge of the Guides, Fred and Natasha. As we were the only Australians with 18 Friendly Americans, we had a great time and made some new friends. We’re keen amateur photographers so have many great photos! We also had a problem with the Airline cancelling our flight, however the issue was quickly resolved by Klaus at Exito. We would recommend Layna and Detour Destinations to anyone wanting a well organised holiday with nothing to worry about except enjoying yourselves.

We recently returned from a combined Machu Picchu/Galapagos trip organized by Kelly and the folks at Detour Destinations. I don’t believe I can say enough positive things about our experience. From the beginning, we received helpful and accurate information regarding the options for our trip. Throughout the process, we received ongoing emails with information to prepare us. At one point the airlines cancelled one of our flights and Detour and Exito travel were able to rebook without problems. The travel companies recommended by Detour for both the Machu Picchu portion as well as the Galapagos portion were equally excellent. This included everything from the initial meeting at the airport, the knowledge of the guides during the trip, as well as the accommodations. We wanted to stay with in a certain budget and Detour was able to design a trip within that budget, and we did not feel we missed anything. I would highly recommend this company to anyone considering similiar tours. Thanks Kelly, Greg and all the fine folks at Detour.
